American Romantics 11/5/2008 by Amir Elzeni

As the dreamer's eyes open
the world changes
and barriers become

life changing moments hovering
close in our minds
memories relentlessly

we grow up carrying close
what we never tell
yet it's right here
on us

can't blame our minds wild
taking off on a wink
sprinkling cinnamon

holding out for some magic
lit deep within us
despite our needs

taking the hard road home
rising above the pain
beating the odds

whispering in our own hearts
fireworks at midnight
pointing at the moon

Amir Elzeni was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1966. Moved to America at age nine. Painfully shy and instinctively driven. He plays guitar a little. His music is the Blues (thanks to Buddy Guy), Jazz and Flamenco. He owned, operated and was the chef at a blues bar. Where he had the pleasure of booking many of the great /legendary blues artists, up and coming young cats and he is honored to say they became his friends and extended family. He was also lucky to meet a girl that he fell in love with in such a magical way.

This is a wonderful poem. I particularly liked "taking off on a wink sprinkling cinnamon chances".

I don't want to poach but could Amir send a poem to me to post on my blog? I would be really pleased.
