The Days Dissolve by Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal

It kills me to lay here
as the days dissolve
and are tucked away.

I look at the stars
because they are nothing
like me. They are
bright and mystical.

I am more like the birds
flying off on tangents.

The Silent Sky by Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal

The sky is silent
and blue. There is a
shell-shaped cloud
carrying a crab-like
figure. The world is
out of sorts. There
is a deep silence
under the glare of
spring. Flowers bloom.
Earth is a beautiful
place. Humans
move back and forth.
In the silence
the dead rest.

I Found You Sleeping by Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal

I found you sleeping in
my fevered dreams. We
were no longer apart.
I tried to wake you. In
your dream you were at
sea and I was drowning.

Swim in the Rain by Luis Cuauhtemoc

I swim in the rain.
I don’t know the consequences of such a thing.
Life is a Trojan horse.
I seek less deception.
I set out to sea
bent on swimming as far from shore as I could.
I want to cleanse my heart.
I seek immediate relief.
The rain coincides
with the situation I am experiencing.
I lost out on love.
I don’t know what else to do.
It is night and I am afraid to fall asleep.

One Kisses His Luck Away by Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal

One kisses his luck away.
He cuts his hand off
and then the other. His
blood fills one hundred fountains.
He starts bathing in his own
blood with the sun bearing down
and it is still morning.

When all his blood is gone
and he loses consciousness
his heart starts swelling.
It is a mighty heart.
He begins to come to life.
One hand grows back and then
the other. With the sun bearing
down and the afternoon birds
singing from the skies he starts
daydreaming in black and white.

The Instant You Were Gone by Luis Cuauhtemoc Berriozabal

The instant you were gone
I started dwelling about the past.
I had a razor on
my mind. I used to worship you.

The instant you were gone
I took flight of all my senses.
I started dwelling on
the past. Not even your shadow

lingered. My eyeballs ached
like tiny stars catching on fire.
I was a bird longing
for death. Your name ripped from my tongue.
