Still-Life Ballad for a Crow by Jay Coral

Curiousity
on a barbed wire
your steady eyes
eulogic
i pity
not putting you
next to a rose
on a snowy day
your black sheen
rejoicing in Titian red.

Immaculate white
the crow wonders
why winter
is a delicate harvest
the guts
not as black
as the heart
the reekness
of no reds
dumbfounds

Old Haunts by Jay Coral

Every year
two lovers meet
before the birdhouse
and peek through the hole
to examine twigs, droppings and eggshells
and not to their surprise
they always find an empty house
as if their leaving is consensual
and then they talk (always have)
about how sweet the air is that day.
