Phoenix by Russ Kazmierczak

the welder
wields lightning

a defibrillator
pressed against the city's chest

she spasms
gasping
it's working

she's coming out of the dark

passers-by stop in awe
as she rises
rises

sparks

still flying

Russ Kazmierczak, Jr. recently moved from Fullerton, California to Mesa, Arizona, near where he grew up and first attended poetry open mics. The return to his roots has inspired a wave of creativity he hopes to ride to the publication of his first chapbook this year. Aside from local poetry readings, you can also find Russ at a local comic book shop or karaoke bar. His cat Amazo wishes he were home more often.
