IMPORTANT: If I accept your poetry, please wait at least six months after publication before sending more. If I reject your work, I cannot enter into correspondence about why I rejected it but please feel free to submit again - but no sooner than six months after rejection. Repeated resubmissions before six months has gone by will result in your submissions being deleted.
Bolts of Silk, edited by Juliet Wilson, aims to showcase beautiful poetry with something to say. I'm always happy to receive submissions that follow the guidelines. Before sending any poetry, please browse the site and read the guidelines carefully.
Send one email containing between three and six poems of up to 40 lines each.
Poems shouldn't have been published in the past six months, unless on a
personal blog or website. I may publish poems that have been published elsewhere more
than six months ago, if you hold the copyright. In this case, please let me know where the poem was published.
Please put poems in the body of an email with 'Bolts of Silk' in the Subject Line and send to Juliet.M.WilsonATgmailDOTcom (replacing AT with @ and DOT with . ). I don't open attachments. As well as your poems, your submission should include:
a brief cover letter (please address me by name. Addressing me as sir may cause instant rejection).
Your name and a brief third person bio.
A link to either your personal blog or website or if you don't have either of those to a page on an external website. I can link to Facebook Fan pages but not Facebook personal profiles.
Your Twitter name if you have one.
I'm particularly interested in poems about nature or environmental issues. However, nature poems need to be more than just pretty descriptions and environmental poems need to avoid political ranting. I'm currently keen for Bolts of Silk to cover a range of themes, so please send poetry on any subject. However, I'm unlikely to publish love poetry unless it has substance and I won't publish anything that is offensive or that includes explicit sex.
Please send seasonal poems three months in advance of the appropriate season in your hemisphere.
I accept poems in English and dialects of English. I can consider poems in foreign languages. Please however supply English
translations and make sure that the translation works as a poem in English.
Please pay attention to spelling and grammar.
It is difficult to publish poems in unusual formats so I may not be able to use such poems.
If I haven't replied within a month, feel free to remind me of your submission.
I encourage contributors to link to Bolts of Silk from their website or blog and to follow the blog through Networked Blogs or Google Friends and to publicise their inclusion here through Twitter or other outlets.
