Tongue by Felino Soriano

After what language holds inside its
many hands,
clenching, as in the diving attribute
of beautified dolphins,
slicing stilled portions of elongated light—
language, the blossoming translucent or
opaque obscurity, the concrete versus abstract
ability to delineate listening from the messengers
of nonchalance—

language dances the twirl
dialect within dialectic verbal observations
whom the philosophical debate while dueling
amid the running wind of
conversational balances.

Felino Soriano (California) is a philosophy student and case manager working with developmentally and physically disabled adults. He is the author of two chapbooks "Exhibits Require Understanding Open Eyes" (Trainwreck Press, 2008) and "Feeling Through Mirages" (Shadow Archer Press, 2008), as well as an e-book "Among the Interrogated" (BlazeVOX [books], 2008). A chapbook is also forthcoming "Abstract Appearance Reaching Toward the Absolute" (Trainwreck Press, 2008). The juxtaposition of his philosophical studies with his love of classic and avant-garde jazz explains his poetic stimulation. Website: www.felinosoriano.com

after reading the poem i was not surprised to see that felino studies philosophy :-) that is quite a vocabulary in this poem! using all these uncommon words in a poem is daring. experimental. i personally prefer smaller simpler words but with the title / topic of the poem this works. jmho

I think the words are just beautiful. They say enough in themselves.
