cracked earth girl
childhood a dry bed of memories
sun-baked exhortations
and wallowing efforts
make for dull eyes
blue turned to crusty brown
a falling away of skin
leaves falling
earth falling
head falling
watering hole past the stage
of caring
forgotten dreams
dried up dreams
cracked earth girl
parched inflamed gone dead
it takes very little effort
to fall asleep now

So beautiful Regina. Invokes so many emotions in me. I'm speechless!!!
You reign my friend!
I love how you pour so much of yourself into your work ... the descriptions and expressions you use are amazing.

love those opening lines. :)
a marvelous voice, rich yet spare - deserving to be heard:)
So beautiful and evocative! Lovely work! ;)
I will wish for an awakening rain and, in the meantime, say, "A splendid poem." :)
I find this poem evokes memories in me. Its the imagery that creates a picture and sets a mood.
Beautiful Regina, bravo!

I really love the sense of downward movement here--also of "crack" and decay. Excellent poem in every way!
Thanks so much to everyone who left such wonderful comments for my poem! I appreciate it so much!
