cracked earth girl by Regina C J Green

cracked earth girl
childhood a dry bed of memories

sun-baked exhortations
and wallowing efforts
make for dull eyes

blue turned to crusty brown
a falling away of skin
leaves falling
earth falling
head falling

watering hole past the stage
of caring
forgotten dreams
dried up dreams

cracked earth girl
parched inflamed gone dead
it takes very little effort
to fall asleep now

I love how you pour so much of yourself into your work ... the descriptions and expressions you use are amazing.

"cracked earth girl

I will wish for an awakening rain and, in the meantime, say, "A splendid poem." :)

I find this poem evokes memories in me. Its the imagery that creates a picture and sets a mood.
Beautiful Regina, bravo!

I really love the sense of downward movement here--also of "crack" and decay. Excellent poem in every way!
